1. Book WELL in advance

Being one of the most popular things to do in Tokyo, booking well in advance is a must!

Bookings are available as early as 3 months, so once you know your travel dates and plans, itโ€™ll be important to book.

Get your tickets before they sell out!๐Ÿ‘‡

2. teamLab Planets dress code | What to wear to teamLab Planets Tokyo

In both teamLab Planets Tokyo and teamLab Borderless, there are many mirrored floors. Due to this, itโ€™s important that you, or the people with you, do not wear any skirts or dresses, especially short ones. Everything reflects on the floor, and no one wants to risk an accidental flash!๐Ÿ˜…

If for some reason you forget and need shorts, teamLab has shorts you can borrow!

Also, keep in mind thereโ€™s a water installation youโ€™ll be walking through. Be sure to wear pants that can be easily rolled up to knee height so they donโ€™t get soaked.

3. Best time to visit teamLab Planets Tokyo

teamLab Planets Tokyo is open every day from 8:30 AM to 10 PM, and the last available slot is at 9 PM โ€“ one hour before closing.

The best time to visit teamLab Planets is in the early morning or late afternoon and evening โ€“ during which there will be less people.

If you can, try visiting during the week as weekends will be more packed with visitors. Book your tickets now for the best time slots!๐Ÿ‘‡

4. Floating orchid room is timed

The Floating Orchid Room, the most spectacular room in teamLab Planets Tokyo, is timed.

In this mirrored room you will have 13,000+ orchids floating over you, making you feel like your are in a different planet. Itโ€™s a mesmerizing experience, and I want to encourage you to let yourself enjoy it to the fullest.

You will have between 5 to 10 minutes in here, which is a very short amount of time. When you visit, you will quickly notice that most people are focused on getting Insta-perfect shots, and then they are upset when they realize their time in that room is over.

A dense, vibrant display inspired by teamLab Planets Tokyo features various floating orchids and green foliage hanging vertically, showcasing clusters of pink, purple, yellow, and white flowers mixed with moss and leaves.

5. Barefoot experience

This is a completely barefoot experience, up until the final attraction, the Moss Garden, where you will receive flip flops.

If for some reason you are uncomfortable being barefooted, or have medical issues, I recommend opting for the teamLab Borderless exhibition.

6. Allotted Entry Time Slot

When you book your tickets, you will need to pick a time slot. Every time slot offered is 30 minutes, meaning that if you pick 5 โ€“ 5:30PM, youโ€™ll be able to enter anytime in that slot.

This tip goes to say that you do not have to worry about arriving at the first minute of your slot โ€“ like I did.๐Ÿ˜…

7. Slow Down and Immerse Yourself

This is an exhibition made purposefully for people to immerse themselves in. Apart from the Floating Orchirds room, no room has time limits โ€“ meaning you can enjoy each one for as long or as little as you like.

One of my absolute favorite rooms was the โ€œFloating in the Falling Universe of Flowersโ€ room, where you lay down and look up to a screen dome that surrounds you.

On this screen, you see endless flowers falling and flowing through the โ€œairโ€. To immerse yourself, itโ€™s recommended that you lay down on the floor to properly look up.

I couldโ€™ve stayed here for hours honestly, everything was just so entrancing โ€“ to the point it felt like you were floating with the flowers.

A vibrant digital art display inspired by teamLab Planets Tokyo features clusters of glowing purple, pink, and yellow flowers scattered on a dark background, creating a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere.

8. Donโ€™t bring too many things

When you first arrive at teamLab Planets Tokyo, you need to leave all your belongings in one of the many, small lockers. Besides your phone, you are not allowed to bring anything with you inside the exposition โ€“ this includes tripods and purses.

There are two sizes available for the lockers, โ€œ25cm wide x 40cm deep x 50cm highโ€ and
โ€œ25cm wide x 40cm deep x 75cm highโ€. All the lockers are free, and there is no cloakroom.

If youโ€™ve been out all day in Tokyo and have done plenty of shopping (as you should), or simply have lotโ€™s of stuff with you, itโ€™s best to leave it at your hotel.

9. Water Area | Drawing on the Water Surface

There is a water-filled room with mirrored walls all around it. During my visit, I was surprised to discover that this pool-like room, has almost knee-tall water levels.

This knowledge tidbit ties in with the tip on what you should wear to teamLab Planets.

In addition, itโ€™s an important note to share in case anyone is uncomfortable with walking in water, or is unable to for some reason.

A crowd of people walks through a dark room with a reflective floor at teamLab Planets Tokyo, illuminated by colorful, glowing light patterns that create an immersive and surreal atmosphere. Mirrors on the walls reflect the mesmerizing scene.

10. Donโ€™t fully book your schedule!

As I mention in my essential Japan tips, Tokyo is big enough to be its own countryโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜… To give you a better picture, Tokyo has 23 wards, 26 cities, and more.

With that said, make sure you do not book multiple activities in a day, or book activities close to one another in time. And if you do, make sure they are in the same ward โ€“ like Shibuya or Shinjuku.

This is because everything is SO far apart, and chances are youโ€™ll book an activity in one ward to then have a minimum hour commute to the next activity in a different ward.

For example, teamLab Planets Tokyo is in the Toyosu district, and is roughly a 50 minute commute from Tokyoโ€™s most famous districts, Shibuya and Shinjuku.
