Is November a good month to visit London?

Personally, November is one of the best months to visit London! Why? Because, despite its usual rainy weather, it’s a month full of celebrations and the air is filled with the excitement and joy that comes with Christmas lights, decorations and the anticipation of the winter holidays.

In terms of crowds, November is a low-season month, meaning it sees fewer crowds than usual and is often a bit more affordable of a month to visit.

The weather in November has a low of 6 degrees and a high of 12 degrees, meaning it’s quite cold. It also sees roughly 10 days of rain, which is not bad day-wise, but the rainfall is highest.

In terms of daylight hours, early November has sunrise at around 7 AM and sunset at 4:30 PM. As you go later in the month, sunrise and sunset hour get closer and closer. By the end of November, sunrise is between 7:30 – 7:45 AM and sunset is around 4 PM.

In other words, if you want to experience the Christmas magic before the insane December crowds arrive, or are looking for a more affordable month to visit, and don’t mind the cold weather – November is a great month to visit!

What to Pack for London in November

Besides the iconic, I mean usual, rainy cold weather, it’s crucial to know that London is not just a big city like Rome – it’s a metropolitan area with 32 boroughs. In other words, it’s immense!

Due to this, it’s crucial that you pack lots of layer-able clothes to keep you warm and dry, as well as comfortable waterproof shoes that allow you to walk 20,000 steps a day.

To give some inspo to layer-able clothes, I always bring thick sweaters, long sleeve shirts to wear below, warm socks, and a winter coat.

To speak to my personal experience, I’ve always visited with my platform Chelsea Boots from Doc Martens, and have regretted the choice every time because of how heavy they are. They are incredible shoes, but with this personal lesson, I recommend wearing a lighter boot.

Another important thing to pack is a small packable umbrella to carry with you at all times – because you cannot trust the weather app. In addition, make sure to bring hat, scarf, and gloves.

One other important thing to pack is a good portable charger to always keep your phone charged up, this is important for using maps and in the chance you want contactless payments.

Important Note: As of April 2025, the UK requires ETA (UK Electronic Travel Authorization) from everyone, including EU and US citizens. Make sure to apply for your ETA before your trip!

What to wear in London in early vs late November?

A smiling woman in a plaid coat holds up a black bat decoration, standing on a colorful street during November in London, with a mosaic-covered car and vividly painted building behind her.

The temperatures between early and late November don’t change drastically, but as the month goes on, days get shorter, rain showers become more frequent, and evenings feel colder.

In early November, the weather is usually mild enough for a trench coat or bomber paired with light layers. I still recommend bringing a hat and scarf for extra warmth.

By late November, I recommend switching to warmer, thicker layers and a proper winter jacket, plus accessories like a scarf, hat, and gloves to stay warm and dry.

Best Things to Do + Popular Events in November in London

Guy Fawkes Night / Bonfire Night

Orange and white fireworks burst against a dark night sky, creating sparkling patterns and scattered bright points of light—a classic scene during November in London.

Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, is the night where the Brits celebrate the death of Guy Fawkes – a man involved in the “Gunpowder Plot of 1605”. The plan, which failed, was to blow up the parliament and kill the Protestant King James I.

As a punishment for his attempt, Guy Fawkes was burned at the stake, which is why today, every 5th of November, they celebrate his death with bonfires and fireworks.

If any Brit is reading this, I genuinely apologize for what I’m about to say – but the first time I attended Guy Fawkes Night in 2023, as someone who always watched V for Vendetta on the 5th of November, I thought it was a celebration of Guy Fawkes, not his death.😂

Let’s just say it was a good laugh when I told my friend about my misunderstanding.

Some of the best places for Guy Fawkes Night fireworks and bonfires are Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival and Battersea Park.

WTM | World Travel Market

If you’re a travel blogger, influencer, or content creator, World Travel Market London is an expo you cannot miss out on!

These tickets are always free for several months after their release, and this year they are free until Monday, September 22nd. After that, they will cost 49 pounds – an affordable price for everything this event offers.

Located in ExCel London, this expo is nothing short of immense and welcomes tens of thousands of people. Last year, over 46,000 people attended.

This 3-day event is a great opportunity for everyone in the travel industry to connect, network, and learn the latest in the industry. This year will be my 3rd time attending and I could not be more excited to go back!

Ice Skating

One of the highlights of winter time? Ice skating!🤩

I personally haven’t had the chance to go ice skating in London just yet, but maybe this will be the year I cross it off my bucket list?👀

There are many ice skating rinks around London, some outdoor and others indoor. I personally would go to either Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Somerset House, or Battersea Power Station.

Why would I pick those? Because these are three great places to visit when in London and they are all outdoor ice skating rinks.

Winter Christmas Lights and Decorations

A historic brick building decorated with festive greenery and large numbers "2023" on its facade, under a blue sky. Experience London in November at Fortnum & Mason, where its iconic clock and arched windows welcome visitors.

The majority of the Christmas winter lights in London are turned on in early November, usually at the end of the first week.

For example in 2024, the Christmas lights in Oxford Street were turned on November 5th, and the Regent Street Christmas lights on November 7th. Carnaby Street, another famous one, was lit up on November 6th in 2024.

Many places already have winter decorations in early November, and two of my favorites are the façades of Fortnum & Masons and Cartier!😍

West End Show

What better way to protect yourself from the cold, rainy November weather than by attending an incredible show in London’s Broadway, the West End?

I personally attended the Matilda show in the West End and cannot recommend it enough. All the kids were phenomenal performers and the stage set up was so impressive. My family recently attended the Evita show with Rachel Zegler, and they absolutely loved it.

I’m strongly considering booking tickets to attend as well. A tip for you and I, book the tickets well in advance – especially for the new Evita and the iconic, Harry Potter: Cursed Child Parts One & Two.

Christmas Markets

Starting in mid-November, Christmas markets begin to pop up all around London, filling the city with the smell of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, and festive treats.

While they’re not yet at full swing like in December, there are plenty of lovely artisan stalls to shop from and soak up the holiday vibes.

Some of the most popular markets opening in November are Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Southbank Centre Winter Market, and Leicester Square Christmas Market.

Whether you’re after handmade gifts, street food, or just a cup of hot chocolate while walking under the lights, these markets are one of the best ways to kick off the season.

Remembrance Day (Nov 11)

Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day, marks the end of the First World War.

Every year at 11 AM on November 11th, the UK holds a two-minute silence to honor and remember those who have served in the armed forces.

Leading up to November 11th, you’ll notice people wearing red poppies – a symbol of remembrance and respect.

There are actually two observances: Remembrance Day on November 11th and Remembrance Sunday, which is the closest Sunday to November 11th.

The National Service of Remembrance, or Remembrance Sunday, takes place at the Cenotaph in Whitehall and it involves the Royal Family and thousands of people marching. This event is open to the public, should you be interested in attending.

Hogwarts in the Snow

Starting November 15th, winter arrives to Hogwarts (Warner Bros. Studio Tour London).

The Warner Bros Studio Tour London is in Leavesden, Watford roughly 1.25 hours away from the City of London borough – making it a great day trip for Potterheads and Harry Potter fans!

With the Hogwarts in the Snow experience you will get to see the sets in Christmastime and even see the Yule Ball.

Tickets to Warner Bros Studio Tour London and, or, Hogwarts in the Snow must be booked in advance!

Is London Christmassy in November?

Yes, London is very Christmassy in November. Some places put up their decorations in early November, but the most famous Christmas lights and Christmas markets arrive in mid-November.

Are jeans acceptable to wear in London?

I’ve seen this question so many times ahaha. Yes, jeans are absolutely acceptable to wear in London!

Have more London Burning Questions? Here are my answers!😊

My only tip when it comes to jeans is to make sure they are not too long and to bring an extra pair of non-jean bottoms. Why? Because wet jeans are NO fun to walk in and they take a really long time to dry.

If you have long jeans, I highly recommend rolling the bottom so you minimize how wet they get.

What kind of coat to wear in London?

Because of the cold and rainy weather, I always recommend wearing a long coat. This is both practical because it offers extra protection from the weather but is also a fashionable choice that fits the London aesthetic.

Many locals in London also opt for bomber and leather jackets. I cannot tell you how many black, North Face bomber jackets I’ve come across the past years.😂

What is the best thing to buy in London?

Personally, the best thing to buy in London is tea, or even household items, from Fortnum & Masons.

Some other great things to buy are Harry Potter related souvenirs, or items from high-fashion British brands like Burberry and Mulberry.

Which London street is famous for going shopping?

Regent street, one of London's most famous streets, with cars and buildings. The hanging lights captures the unique atmosphere of London in November.

One of the most famous streets for shopping, and also Christmas lights, is the beautiful Regent Street. This street is lined up with gorgeous architecture and endless stores, varying from high-fashion to wellness, and beyond.
